Boris Johnson: An increase in Private Hire Vehicles responsible for rise in congestion and pollution in the Capital
Mayor of London Boris Johnson claims that an increase in number of minicabs and private hire vehicles is causing a massive rise in pollution, congestion and illegal parking on the streets of London. With the heavy surge amongst Londoners of getting online minicab services, the number of cabs has been increasing day by day. As per the report of TFL (Transport for London) currently 78,690 licensed private hire vehicle are operating in London and with the estimated raise of more than 1000 vehicle per month, it’s been intended that this number will get over to 100,000 in next two years.
The Mayor and Transport for London want government legislation that would permit a limit on private hire vehicles. He also said that: “We must be able to take action against the threat posed by the massive increase we are seeing in the number of private hire vehicles.”
Furthermore, Boris Johnson also said that he is pursuing powers to curb “unsafe and unregulated” rickshaws and Pedi cabs in West End and an accreditation system or a complete ban are choices that might be considered, if London attained the authority to control.
